I still remember when I first saw Iron Man back in elementary school. Later, I was invited by a good friend of mine to see Winter Soldier in theaters. Since then, I’ve watched almost every single MCU film in theaters, and my favorites (Iron Man, Ultron, Guardians) have been subject to many re-watches. My sister and I often hang out by going to see the latest Marvel flick, and it’s become somewhat of a tradition for me. In two months, I’ll be going off to college, and an era in my life, one in which Marvel has played an enormous role, will come to an end.
Ultimately, that’s why this movie matters so much to me. Yes, an era of film is over, but so is one of my eras. It represents that, and the respect it pays to all of the characters I’ve grown up with is unlike anything. Until I watched this film, I’d never cried during a super hero film. Now I have.
If this movie was simply a good conclusion to Infinity War, I would’ve respected it. But it’s so much more than that, and that’s why I love it. When I gazed upon the shot of Cap standing by himself against Thanos’ army, I thought “This is Captain America.” When Iron Man was willing to sacrifice everything to do what he knew was right, killing himself in the process, I thought “This is Iron Man.” If you’re a Marvel fan, you’ll never see anything quite like this film. Infinity War was a masterpiece. Endgame will be a legend.
